I’m not a big fan of Valentine’s Day, to be honest. I spent way too many years alone in my life, plus, the heterocentrism always rankled. However, I thought this would be a good day to post this full-page illustration from Brides magazine, a loyal client for many years, for a story on women who propose that ran, I believe, in the December 2010 issue. I added some black gouache to the watercolour underpainting to give some texture and mood to the setting. The style of the restaurant was “borrowed” from a NY Times travel piece.
